The MCC Campus Center Dialogues on Diversity Series presents Poet and Author Willie Perdomo and Brazilian Folklore Dance Ensemble “Ologundê. ” Sponsored by:  Brighton and Damon Campus Center, Creative and Performing Arts, English/Philosphy Department, Doorway to Success Program, Latin Pride and the Black Student Union.

Willie Perdomo is a prize-winning Nuyorican Poet (Puerto Rican, born and raised in Spanish Harlem).  He is the author of “Where a Nickel Costs a Dime, Postcards of El Barrio and Smoking Lovely which received a PEN American Center Beyond Margins Award.  He is also the recipient of a New York Fellowship 2006 Arts Poetry Fellowship, co-founder/publisher of Cypher Books and teaches in New York City.  Mr. Perdomo was a member of the 1991 Nuyorican Poetry Slam team who has performed on PBS and HBO’s Def Poetry show.

Ologundê ensemble celebrates the rich Afro-Brazilian culture of Salvador, Bahia through a diverse repertoire of music and dance.  The ensemble toured Greece as part of the cultural Olympiad, appearing at the Kalamata Dance Festival and the Athens Festival at the Acropolis besides touring all over the United States.
