HGSP Film Series Concludes Tomorrow with “Downfall”

The Holocaust Genocide Studies Project invites you to view and discuss the film “Downfall,” 6 pm tomorrow (Wednesday) in room 12-225. The film is rated “R” and runs 1 hour 55 minutes.

The film charts the final days of World War II in Nazi Germany and shows what occurred in the Berlin bunker where Hitler, his secretary, and a few close colleagues waited for their inevitable demise. Following the film viewing Professor Charles Clarke will lead a discussion.

Past reviews of the film include:

"Of all the actors who have taken up the dare of playing Adolf Hitler, Bruno Ganz may be the first who has truly nailed him in body, spirit, and gesture." - Entertainment Weekly 02/25/2005

"[Ganz] tackles the biggest monster of them all with appropriate sobriety and a touch of mischief." - New York Times 02/18/2005

"[P]owerfully disturbing....The film is painstaking in its re-creation of the fall of Berlin, with captivating camera work, mostly with handheld equipment, and disconcertedly realistic war scenes." - USA Today 02/18/2005

This event is free and open to the public. Please call Linda Ingraham, project coordinator, at 292-3321 for more information.
