Coming This Weekend: TV News Program to Promote MCC Course

This Sunday (Jan. 26), Norma Holland, host of “Many Voices, Many Visions” news program on WHAM-TV (Channel 13), discusses MCC’s new Medical Interpreter course being offered this spring.

As more people gain access to health care under the Affordable Care Act, more health care institutions in the Rochester area see a great need for qualified professionals who can serve as interpreters for medical providers and for patients who don’t speak English. Providers recognize that having a certified interpreter available can reduce patient readmissions, cut health care costs, and prevent unnecessary medical tests and procedures.

To address this growing demand for language and cultural services in various health care settings, MCC has teamed up with ECdata National Training Institute to offer the 40-hour course (
https://www.monroecc.edu/workforce). It prepares participants for certification exams that lead to industry-recognized credentials.

Norma Holland interviews Charles Caples, program director with MCC Office of Workforce Development; Eric Candle, president of ECdata National Training Institute; and Diana Casais, who completed the course in fall 2013 and is now an English-Spanish medical interpreter.

“Many Voices, Many Visions” airs at 11 a.m. Sunday.
