"Imagine" Haikus in Honor of Poetry Month

For the third consecutive year, the ETS, Planning, Public Affairs and Grants offices have celebrated National Poetry Month with a haiku slam. This year, our theme was "Imagine," in honor of the Campus Center and residence halls construction. We thought we'd share our work.

(For those of you new to haiku, the format is five syllables, seven syllables, five syllables.)

Imagine fresh minds
Engaged in wide, vibrant space
Digesting, growing

Lunch Bunch together
A table cherished and, again
Noisiest in room.

Trinkets, cards and books
A nightmare no more to dread
Soon Bookstore at peace.

Little yellow hats
Like branded chicks, canaries -
Only squeezable.

Imagine next year
MCC's residence halls
How packed they will be.

Imagine a place
To sit and have lunch with friends,
And not at your desk.

Imagine a view
Without hard hats and muscles
And tanned bodies, too!

Imagine a time
When the toilet flushes true
And water flows free
