The Boring Boring Drone Drone Drone Society.

Betsy Ripton sent a memo to the Department Chairs on September 30 regarding SICAS 008 Regulations.  A “memo regarding regulations” is the poster child for the Boring Boring Drone Drone Drone Society. Anyone who has ever taught a class, conducted a meeting or been the parent of a teenager knows what it is like to be President of the B2D3 Society.  My sister was once lecturing my nephew during a ride to the mall. She paused mid-lecture to take a breath and then continued. My nephew turned to her and said, “Oh, are you still talking Mom?” It was a stereotypical B2D3 moment, one I hope my nephew will experience again in 25 years.

I dutifully read the SICAS 008 Regulation memo and had to ask myself several times, “are you still reading?” as my eyes glazed over, I began feeling sleepy and rapidly drifted into a past life regression. I remembered living in a simpler time when all announcements were carved in stone. People had to be concise or they would never be able to lift the stone up for people to read. Regulations did not include background information on government policies, empathy with those who had to implement the regulations, or detailed examples of what the regulations actually meant.

Thou Shalt Not Steal did not require flipping the stone over to read:

Example 1:  A person who wants a camel but doesn’t own a camel should not sneak into his neighbor’s camel tent and claim that camel as his own. It would be appropriate for the camel needy person to inquire as to whether his neighbor might let him purchase or borrow the camel but please keep in mind that borrowing is not the same as purchasing and the neighbor is in no way obligated to allow the camel needy person to do either. If there is no agreement on borrowing and no money changes hands indicating a purchase then under no circumstances may the camel needy person return home with his neighbor’s camel. That would be stealing and stealing is something that goes against the regulations. Please see other side for list of this regulation and nine others.

While in my past life regression I was able to chisel my own stone regarding the SICAS008 regulations. I now proudly hold up stone #2 for everyone to read.

If you want financial aid you need to register for courses that meet your program requirements.

A program named SICAS008 (not as snappy a name as Moses) checks registration vs. program requirements.

When SICAS008 discovers a problem the student will be notified.

We will try to correct the problem.

There will be exceptions.

If you advise students you will need training to deal with the exceptions.

You need to attend an ADV 008 workshop.

Don’t steal anything at the workshop (see stone #1).

If you too are interested in experiencing a past life regression brought on by Boring Boring Drone Drone Drone please see Betsy’s original memo to the chairs which I have attached for your amusement. I suggest you lie down while reading because you are going to end up curled in the fetal position and you don’t want to hurt yourself on the way to the floor.
