Holiday Science Spectacular for Upward Bound Students

Red and green go great together, but even better so when they’re on fire! The Holiday Science workshop involved an intense display of green and red flames along with a sulfuric acid explosion. Run by AmeriCorps members Paul Stack and Mike Churnetski, the experiments were explained through a rap written by Mr. Paul, featuring Mr. Mike on the drums.

Aside from the flames, the party served up excellent food from Ms. El-Amin, a cookie-decorating station, a Christmas themed photo-booth, and of course, a few carols.  Students had a blast with all the activities, and a handful of the highest achieving Upward Bound students were recognized for their efforts and received a prize.

“The cookies were delicious, and it was spectacular to see the AmeriCorps staff perform,” said Northeast Senior Stoney Reed.

We’ll miss our students during break, but loved getting to send them off in Holiday Style!
