ETS is hosting the webinar “Internationalizing Teacher Education Programs at U.S. Colleges and Universities” on Tuesday, November 9, from 2:00 -3:00 p.m. in Monroe A. Faculty and staff are welcome to participate as presenters discuss new strategies for internationalizing teacher education programs at colleges and universities in the United States. Join Professors James D. Greenberg, Cindi H. Fries, and Helen Marx to discuss effective ways to transform your programs to prepare teachers in educating their students with a global perspective. Without internationalization, schools of education and teachers are falling short in preparing the next generation of global citizens.
The presenters will discuss five critical components of internationalizing teacher education.
- Leadership - Whether led by the administration or by faculty, internationalization requires vision, commitment, and energy to bring about change.
- Infrastructure - How will programs and initiatives to internationalize be coordinated? Mechanisms for cooperation, consistency, and comprehensiveness must be developed.
- Faculty Development - Commitment by the faculty is the core to implementing change. What roles can faculty play? What forms of encouragement will build their confidence and commitment?
- Curriculum - New curriculum development and revision must occur. How will international perspectives infuse your college philosophy, courses, teaching, and programs?
- Resources - How will the initiatives be supported? Do you need new funds or redirection of existing funds? What opportunities exist on your campus and in your community to help transform your curriculum and co-curricular activities?
