Santos Volunteers within Rochester City School District

In celebration of National Library Week, Joann Santos, director of CSTEP and site coordinator for Bridges programs, volunteered to read to two 6th grade classes in the Bilingual Program at the Rochester City School District, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School #9. The classes were composed of students whose native language is Spanish. Some students were fully bilingual and some were English limited. The reading was followed by a discussion primarily in Spanish. Based on the feedback of the librarian, students and teachers, students enjoyed the activity and were happy to be able to share this experience with a Latina. Volunteer readers included community leaders and educators.
