Grasso, Little, and McDonnell Present at GeoFest 2009


Professor Emeritus of Geosciences and President of the Canal Society of New York State Thomas Grasso gave the keynote address at GeoFest 2009 on October 24th at the New York State Museum in Albany.  Grasso presented “Watersheds, Geology, and Physical Geography: The Making of the Erie Canal.”  His presentation focused on how the physical landscape and technology came together to create one of the most successful canals in the world.

Instructor of Geosciences Jonathon Little presented a teaching workshop on “SMART Boards and Geography.”  Adjunct Instructor of Geosciences and Co-Coordinator of the
New York Geographic Alliance (NYGA) Timothy McDonnell presented two teaching workshops entitled “Watersheds in the Adirondacks” and “Mapping the Underground Railroad in New York State.”

The NYGA’s main office is at MCC and its grants are administered by the Grants Office.  The NYGA seeks to promote and improve geographic education from kindergarten through university throughout New York state.  The Alliance is dedicated to working with teachers in providing geographic training and resources, to actively foster standard-based geographic learning, to infuse geography in other disciplines, and to promote geography training for pre-service teachers.  To learn more about the NYGA and become a member please visit https://www.nygeographicalliance.org/ .
