Passing of Professor Emeritus Charles Morey

I am sad to inform the MCC community of the recent passing of Professor Emeritus Charles Morey. Professor Morey began his MCC career at the College's Prince Street campus in 1967. For three decades, he worked with several thousand college students -- helping many prepare for careers in performance and music education -- and many more find music as a meaningful part of a fuller life.

Professor Morey, who was promoted to associate professor in 1975 and professor in 1985, was a 1993 recipient of a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Professional Service and Teaching. During his 30-year tenure here, he was known by his colleagues as an excellent musician, an extraordinary educator, and a selfless individual who never lost enthusiasm for his students or his dedication the the community.

An active contributor to the College, originator of the MCC Jazz Festival, and long-serving department chair, Professor Morey, a highly-regarded musician locally, was often a guest soloist, clinician and adjudicator for county, state and national music conferences/competitions. He earned his M.S. in music education from Ithaca College and his B.S. in music education from Roberts Wesleyan College.
