Sandy Parker and John “Dutch” Summers Establish MCC Foundation Scholarship to Inspire University Prep Graduates

On Friday, October 28, MCC Foundation and MCC representatives were on hand as University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men (UPrep) unveiled its new Career & Technical Education Center. The center offers two-year career programs in information technology, advanced manufacturing, precision machining, skilled trades/building maintenance, culinary and construction technology. UPrep students also benefit from clear pathways to professional certifications and college degrees. The school is led by President Joe Munno.

During the event, Foundation supporters Sandy Parker and John "Dutch" Summers announced the Summers UPrep Scholarship through the MCC Foundation. The Summers UPrep Scholarship, established with a $300,000 pledge payable over five years from the Summers Foundation, Inc., inspires young men to continue their education in tooling and machining and construction technology at MCC. The scholarship bridges the gap between the total amount of financial aid for which a family qualifies and the final cost of attending college. Up to six UPrep graduates will be selected to receive the scholarship each year. Mike Weed, president of Graywood Companies, Inc., assisted in establishing the scholarship.

Please join the Foundation in congratulating UPrep and thanking Sandy Parker, Dutch Summers and Mike Weed for their generous support and for motivating UPrep graduates to consider attending MCC.
