Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council Receives $68.8M

Governor Cuomo on Thursday awarded $68.8 million to the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council for 93 projects through a statewide initiative aimed at creating jobs and stimulating the state economy.

Nine other regions also received funding, four of which were named Best Plan Awardees:
Western New York -- awarded $100.3 million for 96 projects
Central New York -- $103.7 million for more than 74 projects
North Country –$103.2 million for 70 projects
Long Island -- $101.6 million for 66 projects
Southern Tier -- $49.4 million for 58 projects
Mohawk Valley -- $60.2 million for 59 projects
Capital Region -- $62.7 million for 88 projects
Mid-Hudson Region -- $67 million for 61 projects
New York City -- $66.2 million for 50 projects

All in all, a total of $785.5 million was awarded for 720 projects across New York state.

Cuomo’s announcement comes after each regional council spent more than three months creating a comprehensive regional strategic plan. The process included holding public meetings, forums and community workshops across the state. MCC served as host for the Finger Lakes council meetings. A diverse group of more than 30 people from nine counties contributed to the development of the Finger Lakes regional plan.

Our gratitude goes out to John Striebich, chair of the Business Administration/Economics Department, and Kristen Fragnoli, interim dean of the Division of Liberal Arts, for serving as facilitators for the council meetings.
