Law & Criminal Justice Department Scholarships


The Law and Criminal Justice Department of Monroe Community College is delighted to announce the availability of several scholarships, ranging from $200 to $500, to students demonstrating academic excellence.

Eligibility Requirements
1.            Open to any student enrolled in any of the Criminal Justice and Paralegal degree programs.
2.            Scholarship Criteria:

a. One scholarship is open only to first semester students enrolled in CRJ 101 and CRJ 103. No GPA required.

b.For at least one scholarship, students must have completed at least 16 hours of courses required in the Law & Criminal Justice Program and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00.

c. For the other scholarships, students must have completed at least 26 hours of courses required in the Law & Criminal Justice Program and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00.

3.            Selection of the winners will be decided by the Law & Criminal Justice Department faculty (and, the case of the Fuino award, a representative of the Monroe County Deputy Sheriff’s Association) and will be based upon the essay plus review of academic performance.

Essay Topic:
What career path(s) are you considering in the field of criminal justice and why? What are three specific things you are doing, or will you be doing in the future, to prepare for this career?

Essay Requirements:
-- Essay must include your name, student ID #, and a daytime phone number.
-- Essay must be in Times New Roman font size 12, double line space, with a maximum of two pages. 
-- Essay must be submitted electronically to CRJ Department Chair as a Word document to "mailto:pschirano@monroecc.edu" with SCHOLARSHIP in the e-mail subject line.. Hard copies will not be accepted.
