Steven Sasson, Inventor of the First Digital Camera, Visits MCC Photography Class

Steven Sasson, the inventor of the first digital camera, recently visited the History of Modern Photography class taught by Professor Jasna Bogdanovska. The students had a rare opportunity to meet Mr. Sasson, hear his stories, and have their many questions answered.

According to Resource Magazine, one trillion photographs were taken throughout the world in 2015. Every two minutes humans now take more photographs than the combined total taken throughout the 19th century.  None of this would have been possible without the development of the digital camera. Mr. Sasson created the ground-breaking invention in 1975 at the age of 25.

In 2009, President Obama awarded Mr. Sasson the National Medal of Technology and Innovation at a ceremony in the White House. The medal is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on scientists, engineers, and inventors.  Recipients are selected based on their outstanding contributions to human knowledge and for enhancing American competitiveness and quality of life.
