Another Opportunity for STARS Workshops

Did you miss the Supporting Transitioning And Returning Service members (STARS) spring workshops but still want to learn how to best serve our veteran students?  Did you attend one session but missed a second? Don’t worry-- you still have a chance to earn your “veteran friendly” designation.  All three spring workshops will be offered Wed. June 6th at the Public Safety Training Facility.

Session 3: Understanding Veterans’ Health Care, Dr. Ziarnowski from the Rochester Veteran Center will provide an overview of the challenges that face student veterans with service-related mental and/or physical injuries. PSTF 117A, June 6th, 9:00-10:15.

Session 4A: Veterans in the Classroom.  This session will help participants better understand the challenges veterans face in the classroom and offer strategies to best serve this special population.  Eric Wheeler (AVS, History) and Dick Stewart (Mathematics) will present and answer questions. PSTF 117A, June 6th, 10:30-11:45. This session is recommended for teaching faculty

Session 4B: Student Development Needs of Veteran Students. Dr. Otero (Executive Dean, DCC), Michael Bates (Veterans’ Services), Christopher Crane (Homeland Security Management Institute), and Col. John Perrone (Homeland Security Management Institute) will focus on the student development needs of veteran students. Come and learn about what types of needs veterans students have and how we can best help them succeed. PSTF 117B, June 6th, 10:30-11:45. This session is recommended for administrators, non-teaching faculty, and staff.
