Who are MCC's International Students?

We have two different categories of international students here at MCC. Approximately 118 students are here studying on F-1 student visas. What exactly is an F-1 visa student? Imagine you, as an American, want to go spend your college years in France to obtain a degree from a French university. You do not intend to reside in France permanently; you just want to reside there for long-term study. This would make you an international student in France, and you would need to obtain a visa from the French Embassy in order to be an American student in France. The 118 F-1 international students at MCC are doing just that, attending MCC as non-immigrants who will return to their countries with an American college degree. See our fact sheet (attached) for more interesting information about these students.

The other category of international students here at the College are Refugee Immigrants. They have legally immigrated to the United States to reside here permanently through either the refugee relief program, work visas, marriage, or family petitions. MCC currently has 732 Immigrant Students (Permanent Residents/ Green Card Holders) from over 50 countries! Stay tuned for our Immigrant Student Fact Sheet with interesting statistics on these students.

MCC’s international students greatly enhance our institution by sharing their rich languages and cultures, and by providing their global perspectives inside and outside of the classroom. Both of these groups have been negatively impacted by the recent Presidential executive orders which ban immigrants and non-immigrants from seven countries from entering the U.S. for 90 days even if they have a valid visa or have legal permanent residency here in the U.S. These orders also ban all refugees from entering the U.S. for 120 days.
