Yeats and Irish Mythology Lecture


The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a lecture Monday, March 11, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Adjunct Associate Professor Jeffery Jones will be speaking on “Out of the Battles of Old Times: W.B. Yeats’ Use of Irish Mythology.” The lecture will be located on the 4th floor of the library, outside of room 2-452.

Professor Jeffery Jones holds a Masters degree in Irish Literature and Culture from Boston College. Interested in the intersection of mythology and drama, Professor Jones has directed three of W.B. Yeats’ five verse dramas centered on the Irish mythological hero, Cuchulain. He also has presented on the use of Irish mythology in Vincent Woods’ verse play A Cry from Heaven at MCC's "Celtic Identity in the New Millennium" Conference. At MCC, Professor Jones has taught Shakespeare, mythology, and sustainability-focused composition and literature courses; co-founded The Sixth Act, MCC’s drama initiative, on whose board he continues to serve; and currently advises MCC’s Celtic Society. In summers, you might see him in various Shakespearean roles on the Highland Bowl stage.
