Seven New Brown Bag Lunch Sessions Scheduled For November

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND PLEASE JOIN US!

Educational Technology Services invites MCC Faculty, Staff and Administration to the following Brown Bag Lunch Sessions in November.

Sessions take place during COLLEGE HOUR (12-1pm) in ROOM 11-109 unless otherwise noted. These sessions discuss a variety of technology topics. No registration is required - just show up!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6
PARTNERING ACROSS DIVISIONS TO PROVIDE TECHNOLOGY TO STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES
The ever-increasing demand for technology impacts both the classroom and the office. Learn how MCC has kept labs equipped with state-of-the-art technology and our offices highly functional through partnering across divisions. Facilitated by Bob Cunningham, Academic Services and Donna Pogroszewski, ETS Communications and Network Services.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8
VIDEO CONFERENCING DEMONSTRATION
Interactively held between Brighton, Room 11-109 and Damon, Room 5-001. We encourage attendance at either location, as these rooms will be linked for the duration of the session.
IP Videoconferencing is a relatively new and inexpensive way to connect remote locations with interactive 2-way video and 2-way audio. Come see how MCC is now using this technology for department meetings, training, or any events needing interactivity between DCC and Brighton. Facilitated by Paul Tracy (Brighton) and Sharron Waide (DCC), ETS Instructional Technologies.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11
LET'S TALK: DIGITAL VIDEO TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION EXPERIENCES
This session is a fast-paced overview of production enterprise digital video technologies and services available to today's educators. Applications discussed include enterprise video streaming, nonlinear video editing, desktop video conferencing, security applications, and web cameras. The presenters facilitate an interactive session to gather the solutions being used by the audience and to share Monroe Community College's well-developed enterprise solutions in each of these areas. Facilitated by Brett Thompson and Terry Keys, ETS, and Nancy Mallory, VAPA.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13
ONLINE STUDENT RETENTION: WHAT DOES MCC's DATA TELL US?
Student retention remains an important topic of research and debate in higher education. Most recently, it also is being identified as an issue in online learning. In the higher education literature, information on the retention of students in online courses is variable and few empirical studies are being shared. MCC has conducted a retention study of SLN students and is using these data in two ways: 1) to better understand the needs of non-persisting online learners, and 2) to develop systemic online retention strategies. At this session, participants will learn about MCC's online retention study results and their impact on SLN students at the College. Facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey Bartkovich and Marie Fetzner, ETS.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15
SMART CLASSROOM TRAINING
So, you have been placed in a Smart Classroom and want to learn how to use the fancy equipment. This is the session to attend! While there will be other Brown Bags for Lecture Halls, this one focuses on the General Smart Classroom or Smart Classroom Computer Lab. Some insights into emerging classroom technologies will be presented as well. Facilitated by Paul Tracy, ETS Instructional Technologies.

WEDNESAY, NOVEMBER 20
WebQUESTS: ENHANCING TEACHING PRACTICES AND STUDENT LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGY
Have you ever wanted to enhance your teaching practices and student learning experiences? Are you interested in learning new ways to integrate technology into curriculum? Do you ever wonder how the Internet can creatively teach content and keep students actively engaged? If so, come take a journey on a WebQuest and explore the value of using and creating WebQuests in your educational environments! Facilitated by Mary Hallett, ETS Instructional Technologies, Marsha Bower and Charlene Blanchard, Dental Studies.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22
VIDEOSTREAMING
The ability to access video programs from your computer continues to grow. Learn what videostreaming is and how MCC is rapidly expanding video content for faculty, students and staff. Videostreaming has been extremely effective in communicating promotional, educational, and training programs. We will demonstrate what is available (including MCC's web cams), how easy it is to access, and how to place your department's videos on the web. This is a new service offered through Instructional Technologies. Facilitated by Steve Weider, ETS Instructional Technologies.
