9/11 Commemoration

U.S. Rep. John R. “Randy” Kuhl, who secured $450,000 for MCC's Homeland Security Management Institute (HSMI), will speak at an 8 a.m. commemoration on Monday, Sept. 11, at Remembrance Walk on the Brighton Campus.

President Flynn also will make remarks and present Kuhl with a token of the college’s appreciation for the federal funds the Congressman has secured for emergency preparedness training aimed at special needs populations, especially senior citizens, individuals residing in assisted living communities, and people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Kyle Madden, Brighton Campus Student Government Association (SGA) President, also will speak. Student Brittany Hall will sing the national anthem and “America the Beautiful.”

The commemoration ceremony will honor all those whose lives have been affected by the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy as well as military personnel who are part of the MCC family. Preceding the moment of silence at 8:45 a.m., when the first plane struck the World Trade Towers in New York City, guests will place flowers in tribute to those who died during the terrorist attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The event is organized by SGA and Campus Activities Board.

All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the commemoration, which will take place at the monument located behind the Samuel J. Stabins Physical Education Complex. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Warshof Conference Center.
