A Day in the Life at Cornell and FLCC for Upward Bound Students

Hearing about college classes, clubs, and opportunities is one thing, and seeing them in person is quite another. Due to the gracious invitation from the Metro Council for Teen Potential, six Upward Bound students joined a college tour field trip to Finger Lakes Community College and the prestigious Cornell University on Monday, November 10. During walking tours of both schools, students peered inside classrooms, checked out massive athletic facilities, and spoke with college students about the clubs they’ve joined. For some though, the food sparked the most interest as they filled up at the taco bar, ice-cream sundae station, and more in one of Cornell’s all-you-can-eat dining halls.

Not only was the trip fun and informative, but it connected with current student interests. Kendall Small, a junior at Northeast High School with a passion for visual media and creative writing, learned about media related classes and majors at both schools. He plans to pursue these interests in college and loved the opportunity to personally view what that future could look like. All in all, it was another successful trip getting students closer to a college degree.
