Personal Safety Tips

Personal safety on and around campus is a primary piece of any overall safety plan. Please remember the following safety tips as you move in and around the campus settings:

·         There is safety in numbers. Make every effort to walk with another person when leaving a building at night.

·         Walk only in well-traveled, well-lit areas. Know the quickest and safest route to your destination.

·         Be ALERT and AWARE at all times when on the street or sidewalk. Maintain eye contact with those around you. Walk with confidence and purpose.  Most people are victimized because they are not paying attention to their surroundings.

·         Have your cell phone accessible and charged in case you need to call 911.

·         Program the Public Safety phone numbers into your phone.

--   Brighton  Campus and ATC – (585) 292-2911 – emergency

--   Brighton  Campus and ATC -  (585) 292-2912 – non-emergency

·         Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable or threatened by another person’s actions, get away and call Public Safety immediately.

·         Share your course schedule with friends and family. Tell a friend or roommate where you are going and what time you expect to return.

·         Only accept rides from persons that you trust. Always have a plan to get yourself home. Carry money for a taxi or public transportation in case you miss your scheduled ride.

·         If a situation arises in which you feel unsafe on/near campus or you miss the last MCC shuttle for the day, please contact Public Safety.

·        If you are at Damon City Campus and miss the last shuttle for the day, please call 262-1414, or go to the 4th floor desk and ask for assistance.
