Horror in the Hebrides

Prepare for Halloween by watching THE WICKER MAN with Celtic Society. The F-R-E-E screening and discussion will take place today at 6 p.m. in 12-125 (please note the room switch from 12-129).

Synopsis: “When a young girl mysteriously disappears, police sergeant Howie travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle, is not at all what it seems” (Amazon.com).

Starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, THE WICKER MAN has been called “The Citizen Kane of horror movies” by CINEFANTASTIQUE magazine and was ranked the fourth best horror film of all time by THE GUARDIAN newspaper.

Not free tonight? Come by 12-125 on Tuesday, 12 November for our next film, Michael Wood's IN SEARCH OF MYTHS & HEROES: KING ARTHUR.

An engaging historian, famous for his popular documentaries exploring topics as various as the Trojan War and William Shakespeare, Wood leads us through layers of history, literature, and mythology, "untangling the tales of King Arthur's Celtic Britain" (PBS.org).

Throughout the fall semester, you can catch screenings and discussions of a number of Celtic-related films. Each is free, is open to the community, and begins at 6 p.m. in 12-125.
