Rochester AmeriCorps Member Joins STEP Staff

Sean Soper, a first-year Rochester AmeriCorps member, will join the staff of the STEP program for the year.  Sean will serve as a full-time program advisor and specialize as a liaison to the community.  He will develop a community service program for STEP students, work to bring in community members as volunteers with STEP, and organize the first annual STEP service project.

Sean is a recent graduate of SUNY Geneseo where he majored in English Education.  His background in teaching, passion for environmental work, and commitment to service make him an ideal addition to the STEP team.

The Science & Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a state funded pre-collegiate initiative that aims to increase the number of people from historically underrepresented groups that pursue college and careers in math, science, technology, health-related fields, and state licensed professions.

The mission of Rochester AmeriCorps is to mobilize AmeriCorps members and neighborhood residents to improve the reality and perception of public safety in Rochester’s highest need neighborhoods, with an emphasis on community-based initiatives involving children and youth.  STEP became a host site for a Rochester AmeriCorps member through a competitive application process.
