New Course Offerings In Health & Physical Education - Spring 2003

PERSONAL DEFENSE - PEC 148-016
2 credit offering
· This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to keep themselves physically safe. Through enhanced physical fitness, increased safety awareness and acquired defensive physical techniques, students will improve their sense of personal safety and their self confidence in a wide variety of situations.

WOMEN'S HEALTH & WELLNESS - HED 280-001 and HED 280-CC1
3 credit offering
· This course will focus on health & wellness issues pertinent to women in their young adult years through middle adulthood. The conceptual framework based on elements of body, mind and spirit will be used to explore common health and wellness issues (i.e. exercise, nutrition, stress, emotions, relationships, acute and chronic disease). Self-empowerment in relation to health promotion and disease prevention will be stressed.

EMOTIONAL WELLNESS - HED 207-001
3 credit offering
· An in-depth examination of emotional well being, including overall features, individual components, and issues of damage and repair (wounding and healing), self esteem, communication, stress and self-actualization. Prerequisite: PSY 101

INTRODUCTION TO KAYAKING - PEC 123-101
2 credit offering
· Introduction into the world of kayaking. This course will cover equipment components needed to kayak safely as well as basic strokes, reading the river, rescue techniques and how to roll a kayak.
