Scholars' Day 2010 - Abstract Deadline Extended to Friday, February 12, 2010

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, MCC will host its second "Scholars' Day."  MCC's Scholars’ Day program aims to highlight the accomplished and talented scholarly work and research of all MCC students, faculty and staff.

In an effort to make this our most successful and representative Scholars’ Day yet, we’ve extended the Abstract Submission Deadline until Friday, February 12, 2010.  We are particularly interested in submissions from students and faculty in the natural sciences and fine arts as well as staff in all divisions and departments, but all submissions will be considered!

Our Call for Participation and Submission forms can be found at our program web page:
<https://web.monroecc.edu/scholarsday>

MCC's Scholars' Day program aims to provide the entire MCC community with a single venue that highlights and celebrates our culture of academic excellence.  The proposals we are seeking from students, faculty, and staff should detail specific projects or work that they would like to have considered for inclusion during this year's program.  This year we would especially like to encourage submissions and proposals from departments and disciplines across the entire college and are interested in receiving a wide variety of proposals including, but not limited to, traditional academic conference-style individual essay or research paper presentations, suggestions for panel discussions, poster sessions, and performances or studio sessions.

This year the Scholars' Day committee is proud to announce that our keynote address will be given by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and UCLA professor Dr. Jared Diamond, author of the New York Times bestsellers “Collapse:  How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed” and “Guns, Germs, and Steel.”

Again, we would like to invite faculty and staff to strongly encourage their talented and interested students to submit to this Call for Participation, as well as to consider mentoring participating students as they prepare to experience what is likely to be their first academic conference.  In addition, we strongly encourage faculty and staff to present their own scholarly projects, participate in a panel discussion, or to co-present with a student.

Interested students should contact a sponsoring faculty member to help guide them through the process.

If you have any questions, would like more information, or have had/are having problems with the online submission form, please contact Matthew Hachee (ENG/PHL) at extension x3274, or Jodi Oriel (Campus Center) at extension x2533.
