Honors Committee Update

Greetings!  This is the first of several reports from the Honors Committee.

In several venues, President Kress has noted that community colleges have a responsibility to address the needs of students all along the academic spectrum from developmental/transitional to honors, from credit to non-credit, from career to transfer.

MCC has had a successful history of offering honors classes to our most academically gifted students and an honors designation on their transcript if certain parameters were met.   Now, under President Kress’s leadership,  we want to focus institutional attention and resources in a comprehensive approach to honors education that builds on our existing programming and intensifies the  scholarship and engagement opportunities for these students.

The Honors Committee charged by President Kress includes honors students Brian Cannioto and Noelle Robinson, Faculty Senate representative David Shaw, Admissions representative Christine Casalinuovo-Adams, PTK Advisor Jodi Oriel, Honors Program Coordinator Paul D’Alessandris, faculty members Tokeya Graham and Michael Ofsowitz, Dean McDonough and Vice Presidents Salvador and Glocker.  Our task is to create a proposal for an Honors College, a college within a college, with an accompanying plan for resource needs and development.

We seek your thoughts and guidance as we discuss  recruitment and admissions, space, scholarships, an enhanced curricular vision, resource budget development, partnerships and assessment.

Please send your ideas and comments to:

Student Brian Cannioto (<mailto:bcannioto001@student.monroecc.edu>
Student Noelle Robinson (<mailto:nrobinson033@student.monroecc.edu>)
Paul D’Alessandris (<mailto:pdalessandris@monroecc.edu>), or
Dr. Michael McDonough (<mailto:mmcdonough@monroecc.edu>).

Each will relay your valued thoughts to the committee.

Stay tuned for more progress reports.
