Nursing Department Celebrates National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. May 8 is designated as National Student Nurses Day.  National Nurses Week celebrates the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients. The National Nurses Week 2015 theme of "Ethical Practice, Quality Care" recognizes the importance of ethics in nursing and acknowledges the strong commitment, compassion and care nurses display in their practice and profession.

The Florence Nightingale pledge, seen below and developed in 1893, is recited by new graduates around the world. MCC graduate nurses will recite this at our Pinning Ceremony on May 21st:

"I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care."

Come to the second floor of the Wolk Building and see a display of posters depicting Nurses Week from the past several years.
