Upward Bound YAR Grant

On December 4th, the Upward Bound Program received a YAR Grant. The Grant, which was co-authored by Jaynell Scott (senior at East High) and Zipporah Ross (senior at Northeast Prep.), will allow the students to pursue their project on, “Looking Through the Pigeonhole.” Pigeonhole, which is symbolized to mean stereotyping, is the theme of this project. The purpose of this project is to inform the public of common stereotypes and ways to positively address the ramifications of such practice. The students will take responsibility of leading this project and coordinating twenty UB students. From this experience, they will gain vital skills such as managing time, speaking in public, and finding solutions.

The project will target high school students from the Rochester City School District and Greece Central School District, and it will use discussion based methodologies to engage and facilitate students in understanding the issue of stereotyping.
