CSTEP/LSAMP Students Present at SU Conference

On Saturday, October 3,  a group  of six CSTEP/LSAMP students attended the 2015 Upstate Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ULSAMP)  Leadership Conference at Syracuse University.  Three of the students presented posters detailing the research they conducted at local universities this past summer.  The students and their topics were:

Aviriana Follet -  “The Search for Life on Mars”

Shane Michtavy -  “Integration of Software for Diffraction and A Potentiostat”

Marcus Wade -  “The Effects of Acute Resistance Exercise on Vascular and Cognitive Functions”

In addition,  two MCC CSTEP alumni, Saddam Alrobaie and Zara Fatima, who are now attending RIT presented their poster “The Potential For Using Spent Coffee Grounds as Biofuel” and won the 2nd Place award in the poster competition.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at MCC works to increase the number of students from under-represented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology and health-related fields.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is dedicated to increasing the number of under-represented students in college and receiving 4-year degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Seven Upstate New York institutions have joined forces to provide funding, research opportunities, tutoring and mentoring services to students in the LSAMP program.
