Office and Computer Programs Faculty and Students Attend Explore Rochester IT Symposium

Office and Computer Programs faculty, and nearly 150 of their students, attended the 4th annual “Explore Rochester IT Symposium” on Friday, October 17th.  The symposium, held at RIT, targeted Rochester area graduate and undergraduate students pursuing an Information Technology (IT) related degree, and provided students and faculty with an up- close look at IT trends and needs of Rochester businesses.

Dr. Dianna Phillips, dean, Technical Education; Professor Gloria Morgan, chair, Office and Computer Programs; and Professor Rory Butler, Office and Computer Programs faculty, facilitated a focus group discussion with CIOs from major companies, including Energy East, Paychex, Excellus, RIT, and CAI, Inc., to obtain their feedback on curricular issues for computer-related programs.  The CIOs provided valuable critique of the two new curriculum models that were presented.

The mission of the symposium is “To increase the awareness, excitement and exposure of Rochester area IT employment opportunities among local college students in an effort to enhance the IT Community within Rochester.”

Mission accomplished!  Our students and faculty were afforded the opportunity to attend panel discussions, meet with CIO’s from leading Rochester corporations, and discuss IT initiatives and future career opportunities, including the “Summer Rotational Exposure Program.”  For additional information about the “Summer Rotational Exposure Program,” please visit
