Passing of Professor Emeritus of History James Snyder

I am sad to inform the college community that Professor Emeritus James Snyder, formerly of MCC's Anthropology/Sociology/History/Political Science Department, passed away on September 27 at the age of 76.

Service and interment were private. Donations may be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center in his memory.

Jim, who held a M.A. from the University of Rochester and a B.A. from Wesleyan University, began his MCC career in 1968. He was promoted from assistant to associate professor in 1977 and in 1989 earned the rank of professor. Known for his dedication to student success, Jim made it a point to provide advisement and counseling over coffee or lunch at least twice of week with selected students. He also created several new courses, most notably, a course on World War II and another on the Vietnam War.

Predeceased by his older sister, Margaret Carlson, Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Peer; daughters, Jane and Catherine Snyder; son, David Snyder; granddaughter Eva Huang; sister, Sandy Dykes; nephews, Shawn, Jonathan and Matthew Carlson; niece, Elizabeth Jarvis.
