MCC's First "Scholars Day" - Informational Reception November 19, 2007

Dear Colleagues

In Spring 2009 MCC will host its first "Scholars Day" as an attempt to draw our students into the intellectual life and excitement of scholarly work and research, and to publicize the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, and students.  Even more, our "Scholars Day" events aim to bring together MCC students and faculty and to expand opportunities for collaborative learning beyond the traditional classroom.

Made up of presentations, panel discussions, and keynote addresses from departments across the college, the goals of MCC's Scholars Day are:

1.  To publicize the research and writing of the entire MCC community, including both students and faculty.
2.  To encourage the sharing of knowledge across academic disciplines.
3.  To further strengthen MCC's local, state, and national image as an academically rigorous institution.
4.  To provide a space for students who have the desire and potential to become scholars.
5.  To provide an opportunity for members and students of various departments of the college community to socialize with one another in an academic, conference-like setting.

In order to be a complete success, MCC's Scholars Day would benefit from support from interested faculty.

In particular, we are looking for faculty who are willing to incorporate assignments, research projects, essays, critical reviews, or other academic projects that could be shared with others into their regular curricula.  We are also looking for faculty who are willing to present their own scholarly writing and research, or who are willing to mentor student presenters and/or willing to co-present with a student with whom they have worked.

Calls for Papers/Research Projects will be circulated in early Spring 2009, so faculty encouragement inside and outside the classroom in the preceding semesters is essential.

For more information, please plan to attend our information reception on Monday November 19, 2007 at 3:30-5:00PM in Monroe A.  Volunteers from all departments, divisions, and offices are welcome, and we would especially love to hear about current projects or assignments that faculty have developed that might fit into the goals for the event outlined above.

If you plan to attend our information reception, please RSVP to Jodi Oriel at <<
