Campus-wide Volunteers, Faculty, Staff and Students Make Alumni Week and Homecoming a Success

The MCC Foundation thanks the members of the Alumni Week and Homecoming 2011 Planning Committee for their outstanding effort to reconnect alumni, students and friends to MCC.  Over 1,500 people participated in 18 events from September 19 to October 1.

The week began with a Fall Festival hosted by CAB which featured a Michael Jackson Trivia and Lyrics Game Show—one of the many CAB events leading up to the Homecoming headline show.   The Child Care Center celebrated its 20th anniversary with a reception and dedication of the newly renovated natural playground.   Alumni took advantage of an exceptional opportunity to learn cooking and wine pairing techniques from Michelle Bartell (Hospitality), Gerry Brinkman (Hospitality) and Dave Boni (Transitional Studies).  Alumni from the Classes of the ’60s gathered at Pomodoro Restaurant and celebrated the much anticipated induction of MCC’s First Class into the Alumni Hall of Fame.  Chuck Salamone, Tracey Britton and Sal Galvano hosted a well-attended Alumni Women’s Soccer Reception at the Italian American Sport Club.

Homecoming weekend began with a Spirit Day Faculty vs. Students Basketball Game.  Faculty, staff and students wearing black and gold cheered on their favorite team from the sidelines.   In the evening, a banquet was held on campus honoring Bob Hurlbutt , Wendy Kotwas  and Jake Wiemer as they were inducted into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame.

Homecoming Saturday was filled with fun events, starting with the 5th Annual 5K Walk/Run.  MCC faculty, staff, alumni and community members raised $5,700 for student scholarships!  Special thanks to Courtney Belluccio, Donna Burk, Jodi Oriel and Dawn Quatro for forming teams, encouraging sponsorship and lending their leadership support to make this our most successful race yet!  Congratulations to our 5K top finishers Jared Green and Jennifer Smay.  Award winners were:  Kim Willis (most raised by an individual), Jaime Smith (best spectator), Campus Events (best team spirit) and Records and Registration (most raised by a team).  See the attached for a complete teams listing and the race results.  The 5K Walk/Run was followed by MCC Tribunes games, tailgate party, residence halls kickball game and ended with CAB’s Homecoming Headliner, Who’s Bad-The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band.

On Sunday the Homecoming Alumni Classic and Luncheon Honoring Chris Belle-Isle ’67 was held at Eagle Vale Golf Club raising $3,000 to establish the G. Christopher Belle-Isle Career and Transfer Scholarship.  Golfers and luncheon guests had the opportunity to meet the first Belle-Isle scholar.

The week closed with four alumni events.  The 50th Anniversary Community Photo, Eastman-Monroe Dental Hygiene Alumni Association Reunion Luncheon, MCC’s Dental Hygiene Clinic Open House and an alumni donors luncheon hosted by President Kress at Reflections.
