Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) Now Available on MCC’s M Drive at M:MCC/Chemical Safety

In maintaining compliance with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), MCC now has an online SDS Library, making Safety Data Sheet (SDS) readily available to employees. A Safety Data Sheet (SDS), formerly known as a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), provides information on appropriate handling and safe use of hazardous chemicals to prevent or reduce injury and illness related to exposure to these chemicals.

The online library, with over 3000 SDSs, includes an SDS for every hazardous chemical product found at MCC. Each SDS is in PDF format and is named using the following format:  Full Product Name, Manufacturer, Revision Date. The SDSs are listed alphabetically in the “Chemical Safety” folder by full product name. Due to OSHA’s required conversion from old MSDS format to new SDS format by June 2015 and manufacturers occasionally changing the formulation of a given product, more than one MSDS/SDS can be present in the library for the same product. Therefore it is important to check the revision date to ensure you have the correct version.

The SDS Library is constantly being updated. If you can’t find an SDS in the Online Library or if you need further assistance accessing the library, please contact the Environmental Health & Safety office at 292-3150.
