Yom HaShoah Commemoration to be held Today at the Memorial Art Gallery

Today is Yom HaShoah, the International Day of Remembrance for Holocaust victims. Student leaders of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project (HGSP) at Monroe Community College invite you to join them for their 12th annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration and Candle Lighting ceremony today at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue.

Special guest Stephen Feinstein, Ph.D., director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and professor of history at the University of Minnesota, will present "The Art of Memory: The Holocaust Reflected through Art, Images and Monuments." Through a comparison of art and memorials from the United States, Germany, Poland and Israel, Feinstein will explore how art has captured historical tragedies and how, at times, art is the only source of information regarding world events.

For more information, please call Valerie Keller, HGSP coordinator, at x3321. This event is free and open to the public.
