Local Higher Ed Artists Collaborate for Fringe Festival and Hispanic Heritage Month

Five local Latino higher education professionals are the director and cast of the play “Rumba & Mojito Picante”.

This new play is a spicy and hysterical theatrical cocktail against racism, homophobia, and violence.  It takes place on the eve of the wake of el Trino, the poor neighbor who died after a long illness.  Cecelia and Julian are in charge of providing refreshments, but things do not turn out as planned when, with the help of a new recipe combining rum and salsa picante, many secrets come up to the surface.  They all realize the only way to beat death is with the intense celebration of life.  The play, in Spanish and English and for mature audiences, will run in the Ensemble Theater at SOTA September 22 at 9:30 PM, September 23 at 9:30 PM, and September 24 at 10:30 AM.  For tickets visit rochesterfringe.com.

This original play is written and directed by Candide Carrasco, professor of French and co-chair of foreign languages and literature at Nazareth College, and features:
