The MCC softball team used a pair of shutouts and plenty of rainouts to earn a spot in this weekend's NJCAA Division III national tournament in Rochester, Minn.
The Tribunes (33-8) defeated Hudson Valley CC 1-0 and Broome CC 3-0 on a busy Saturday in Troy, N.Y. The skies then opened up for the rest of the weekend and washed out the remaining games. Because MCC was the top seed and undefeated in the double elimination tournament at that point, the Tribunes earned the national birth.
Missy Flint allowed five total hits in the two shutouts, striking out 16 batters. She was named the pitcher of the tournament. MVP Tara Rogowski was 3-for-3 with three RBI, including her 10th home run of the season, in the win over Broome.
