Announcing the Fall 2013 Foreign Film Fest


The World Languages & Cultures Department and the Global Union International Students Organization invite students, faculty staff and members of the Rochester community to attend the screening of four foreign language films, as follows:

Tuesday, October 29 ~ 4:00 pm 
The Other Son (Le fils de l’autre). Drama. Israel, 2012 (106 minutes - Rated PG-13)
In Arabic, Hebrew and French with English subtitles. 
As he is preparing to join the Israeli army for his national service, Joseph discovers he is not his parents' biological son, and that he was inadvertently switched at birth with Yacine, the  son of a Palestinian family from the West Bank.

Tuesday, October 29 ~ 4:00 pm
The Intouchables (Intouchables). Drama/Comedy. France, 2011 (112 minutes - Rated R)
In French with English subtitles
When Driss, an ex-con from the projects, is hired to take care of an eccentric French aristorat named Philippe his newfound job quickly becomes an unpredictable adventure. As this unlikely duo overcome adversity of every flavor in this true story they also shatter their pre-conceptions of love, life and each other. Based on the #1 international best-selling book “You Changed My Life”.

Universal Signs Drama. USA, 2008 (100 minutes - Not Rated) 
In American Sign Language with English subtitles. 
After the death of his fiancée's daughter while in his care, a deaf man shuts himself off from the world. Haunted by memories, it is only through new friendship that he can learn to forgive, love, and reconnect.

Wednesday, October 30 ~ 4:00 pm
I, the Other (Io, l’altro). Drama. Italy, 2008 (78 minutes – Not Rated)
In Italian with English subtitles.
Drama set in Sicily about two fishermen, Giuseppe, a Sicilian, and Yousef, a Tunisian, who have worked together for years but whose lives and friendship are changed forever in the aftermath of the US terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.


These films will be screened at the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A and B) in the Brighton Campus. Two films will be shown concurrently on each of the scheduled dates. The films will be introduced to the audience at 4:00 p.m. Arrive early to enjoy international candy and nibbles sold by the Global Union students. All films have English subtitles. The Foreign Film Fest is free and open to the public. Parking is available for the general public in Lot M.
