STEP Film and Discussion

A Delta and 3AG Red Carpet Event: Girls Night Out

Please join the Rochester Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and the MCC African American Affinity Group for a Red Carpet Event on the film: STEP.

STEP is a documentary that tells the story of a group of senior year high school girls' step team in the inner-city of Baltimore. The film documents their efforts as they try to become the first in their families to attend college. The girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest.

Directly after the film, there will be a panelist discussion with community leaders addressing the risk and protective factors that impact young women. This Girls Night Out event will cover the importance of sister circles, women to girl mentorship, the intersectionality of identity, and the development of community supports for our youth. Panelist include: The Honorable Mayor, Lovely A. Warren, Jackie Campbell, Tanya Thurman, and Derra Smith. Professor Tokeya C. Graham will serve as film discussion facilitator and Professor Melany Silas will serve as program host.

The Red Carpet Event will be held on Friday, October 20th at 6:30pm at the MCC Theater at 1000 E. Henrietta Rd., in Building 4. Tickets are $5 for the general public and free to all MCC Faculty, Staff and Students (2 tix max). Tix will be available through the Thomas Flynn Service Desk. Please email the African American Affinity Group at mcc3ag@monroecc.edu or The Arts & Letters Committee for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., at artsandlettersdstrac@gmail.com for more information.
