"Plays on Film: Death of a Salesman" on October 2nd

Often cited as exploring the failure of the American Dream, this classic of the modern theatre also engages with questions of aging, death and dying, suicide, gender roles, work/life balance, and child rearing. Come see a screening of the acclaimed 1966 television version of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, adapted by the playwright himself, on Thursday, October 2nd at 7pm in Room 8-200 on the Brighton Campus. This version features both Lee J. Cobb and Mildred Dunnock, who originated the lead roles of Willie and Linda Loman on Broadway. The screening will be preceded by a brief introduction to its historical context, and followed by a moderated discussion. It runs slightly under two hours, and refreshments will be served.

For professors interested in integrating this into your curriculum, we are making available a packet of supplementary materials, including excerpts from the play and critical writings. Please contact Maria Brandt "mailto:mbrandt@monroecc.edu" for a copy of this material.

Thanks.
