Former MCC Star Redding Signs with New York Mets

Former MCC standout pitcher Tim Redding has signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets. The one-year deal is worth $2.25 million. Redding pitched with Monroe in 1997 and 1998.

The hard-throwing right-hander went 10-11 with the Washington Nationals a year ago. He has 34 wins in his seven-year big league career and is looking to land a spot in New York's starting rotation.

The Mets are his fifth Major League team. He has also played with Houston, San Diego, the New York Yankees, and the Nationals.

Redding was an NJCAA All-American for MCC and led the nation in earned run average in 1998. He finished his Tribune career 14-1 with a 1.27 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings.  MCC retired Redding's No. 17 jersey last spring.
