Lou Gramm '71 to Sing National Anthem at Salute to Excellence

In honor of Monroe Community College’s 50th anniversary, lead vocalist and songwriter Lou Gramm will pay tribute to his alma mater the best way he knows how: through music. Gramm will perform the national anthem at the Monroe Community College Foundation’s 22nd annual Salute to Excellence dinner on Thursday evening, November 17, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The event will celebrate MCC’s tradition of educational excellence and community leadership, as well as the success of alumni hall of fame inductees.

Gramm, a 1971 graduate, was one of the first alumni to be inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame in 1992, its founding year. After college, he went on to have a highly successful music career as a songwriter and lead singer for some of the most popular, best-selling bands of the rock era, including Foreigner. Gramm continues to perform on tour, having released a Christian Rock album in 2009.

“MCC and my professors offered a lot to me when I was a student,” said Gramm. “It was and still is an excellent place to learn and discover your life’s passion. My wife, Robyn, and I look forward to joining in the celebration,” said Gramm.

The 22nd annual Salute to Excellence is made possible by community benefactors, including Golden Benefactors MCC alumni Robin ’80 and Timothy ’80 Wentworth, Dixon Schwabl and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Proceeds from the Salute to Excellence event support student scholarships and program innovation at MCC.

The Monroe Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization. It was established in 1983 to secure private sector support to supplement and enhance public funding at Monroe Community College. To learn more, go to www.monroecc.edu/go/foundation.
