Despite Record Setting Cold, LPP Students Enjoy February Break Activities

Frigid temperatures failed to stop MCC’s Liberty Partnerships Program students from having a fun filled February break.  Three days of activities were planned, each with a great turnout from students who wanted to take advantage of these opportunities.

Tuesday kicked off the week with a trip to the Rochester Museum and Science Center where the students went on a scavenger hunt. Answers could be found in various exhibits around the museum and it was great to see the students having fun while also learning new information about the City of Rochester.

The next day students took a tour of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center. The group learned all about the great programs REOC has to offer and many students were inspired after hearing directly from those currently enrolled in the Culinary Program. They even enjoyed a lunch prepared by REOC culinary students after their tour!  Afterwards students came back to the Damon City Campus to enjoy fun activities including a performance and lesson by hip-hop dancer Dimante Swift.

On the last day of activities LPP students and staff went to Perinton Town Park for a winter cookout. Students enjoyed a nice picnic in the lodge followed by a variety of crafts and games. S’mores were prepared on the outdoor grill and were a big hit with the kids. LPP student Ciana Simmons stated,  “we got to actually make them ourselves which is the best part.”

Despite the cold weather, students and staff are already looking forward to even more fun over the April break!
