Rethinking How We Communicate

Over 10 years ago, when the MCC Daily Tribune was launched, it revolutionized communication at MCC.  Creating a one-stop source for news and information freed us from a barrage of e-mails all day long and created a definitive source for college information.

Fast forward a decade or more: our world is more complex, messages come from every direction and it’s harder for all of us to hear and be heard. It’s past time to rethink the college’s approach to internal communication and our primary communication vehicle. We need to put in place an institutional approach to communication that helps us all understand where we’re going and how we’re getting there, while at the same time providing the everyday details that we need to do our jobs and work effectively together.

With the help of
Roberts Communications, the Marketing and Community Relations Department is thinking through a new approach, starting with research. We are holding focus groups and will be surveying the college community to gather input on the college’s communication needs, challenges and opportunities. Watch for the survey in your email next week.

If you have questions or want to share a perspective beyond the survey, feel free to reach out. Send an e-mail to us at: <mailto:marcom@monroecc.edu>  or reach out in person: I’m holding 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, Sept. 24 and 2:00-3:00 p.m. Monday, September 28 for conversations on internal communication. No appointment necessary; call ext. 3015 or stop by Spina Administration Building, Room 1-313.

Thanks in advance for your help.
