Help Identify Students for Honors Courses

In an attempt to identify outstanding students who might profit from and enjoy an honors course or seminar, Honors Studies is asking you to send us the names and M00#s of your best students by email to <mailto:honorstudies@monroecc.edu>.  This semester we are attempting to reach out to all teaching faculty across the college via the Tribune, and we hope that you help us to reach more students than ever before!

Once we have their names we’ll check to see if they have already received honors information.  If they haven't, we’ll mail them descriptions of the Spring 2009 Honors Courses and invite them to apply.

Last semester we had over 500 students recommended by faculty across the college, and we hope you will help us maintain this success by taking a few moments to share with us a few names of your brightest and most talented students.

As always, we’ll leave the "honors" criteria to you.  However, I hope curiosity, motivation, and hard-working attitudes will be considered in addition to "A" or "B+" grades.  Although honors courses are not technically “more work,” please keep in mind that all honors courses are “Writing Intensive,” and can be quite demanding for under-prepared students and students that have not developed good study and work habits.

Although we will always accept your recommendations, we find that it is most convenient for students if our office receives your recommendations before Wednesday, November 19, 2008.

If you wish, feel free to print class lists from Banner Self-Service, indicate those recommended, and send to the Honors Studies office (5-556).

Thank you.  The students are delighted when they receive our letter that says they were recommended for Honors by one of their professors.  If you have questions or comments, please call me at x3351.
