How to Better Understand and Answer Student’s Assets Questions on the FAFSA


An asset is defined as property that has an exchange value. The purpose of collecting asset information on the federal financial aid application (FAFSA) is to determine whether a family‘s assets are substantial enough to support a contribution toward a student's cost of attendance (COA).
