Johnson Discusses Smooth Transitions with State Federation

Michael Johnson, DCC Counselor, gave a presentation Nov. 18 to attendees of the Council for Exceptional Children on smoothing the transition to college.

Michael presented the session - at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester for the New York State Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children Annual Convention - along with Tom Munn, Regional Transition Coordinator, Rochester Regional Transition Coordination Site; Tabitha Buggie-Hunt, Office of Disability Services, SUNY Geneseo; and Maggie Herman, Transitional Specialist, Monroe #1 BOCES.

The presentation was entitled: “Smoothing the Way: Helping Students with Disabilities Make a Successful Transition to College.” The presentation provided information about planning and preparing for college, choosing the right college, the importance of self-advocacy skills, and the differences in laws and academics between K-12 and college in relation to students with disabilities.
