Passing of John Trevisan, Founding Director of Student Activities

I am sad to inform the college community that Professor Emeritus John J. Trevisan, MCC’s founding Director of Student Activities, passed away the morning of September 22, 2015.

Calling hours for John are 4 pm – 7 pm, Thursday, September 24 at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Friday, September 25 at the Chapel of Cherry Ridge, 900 Cherry Ridge Blvd, Webster.

John, who earned a M.A. in Recreation Administration from New York University and a B.A. in Sociology from St. Bonaventure University, began his MCC career in the fall of 1963. Remembered as being an exceptionally dedicated advocate of MCC, he was the founding director of Student Activities, served as Executive Director of the MCC Association, Inc from its inception, played an integral role in creating MCC’s Alumni Association and served as Executive Director of the MCC Foundation.

A trusted mentor to countless students, faculty and staff, John was the 1983 recipient of the Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Professional Service. He retired in 1988 after 25 years of service to the College. In 2011, the John J. Trevisan Co-Curricular Student Leadership Award was established in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to the development of student leaders.
