Delivering Equitable Online Education: Online vs. Hybrid Delivery Compared - Audioconference

MCC will host the ITC Professional Development Audioconference entitled "Delivering Equitable Online Education: Online vs. Hybrid Delivery Compared" on Tuesday, July 20 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Board Lounge.

Presenter Gerald Boerner, adjunct professor of Computer Information Systems at Riverside Community College, will compare online and hybrid course delivery with respect to students’ access to computers and Internet connections. Hybrid courses, which combine Web-based delivery with face-to-face classroom instruction, can provide the necessary educational access to those on the “dark” side of the digital divide. These courses are as demanding as online delivery, but allow students to use on-campus computer labs and other technology solutions for the online portion. Participants will learn how to develop plans for deploying distance-learning schemes that are effective, equitable, and accessible.

Using eCollege, Gerald Boerner has converted classes to full, online format, has used WebCT to deliver Web-based "hybrid" courses and supports most of his regular classes with extensive online content. His research is focused on service-learning and Web page effectiveness. Boerner has been a frequent speaker and workshop presenter at state and national conferences in the area of using Web-based instruction and service learning.
