Water for Sudan Check Presentation Ceremony

The college community is invited to welcome back Water for Sudan Founder and President Salva Dut ’00 when he returns to campus for the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project’s (HGHRP) annual Water for Sudan Check Presentation Ceremony. The ceremony will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe B).

Once again, HGHRP student leaders surpassed their goal and raised more than $6,000 to support Water for Sudan’s efforts to build fresh water wells and transform lives in southern Sudan. They raised money by hosting a Walk for Water, selling water bottles and T-shirts, and advocating for human rights on campus. Their success helped secure a matching grant from community philanthropists in order to cover the rising cost of building a new well.

Earlier this year, a well was dedicated in MCC’s name to honor our students’ leadership and community’s generosity during the 2008-2009 academic year. (To see a photo of the well, please view the 2010 photo gallery:

The mission of Water for Sudan, Inc. is to continue drilling wells in impoverished areas of Southern Sudan so that the people have access to clean water, free from parasite infestations. To learn more, please visit
